Pressemitteilung vom 24.09.2021

„YES“ to the referendum: Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen, Akelius & Co.!

The network of Akelius tenants is decisively in favor of the expropriation and socialization of Akelius & Co. We have called on all Akelius tenants to vote „YES“ in the referendum on Sunday.

All previous attempts to install more protection for us tenants have been systematically sabotaged by Akelius & Co. and the conservative and economic liberal parties. At the latest since the unfortunately successful attack on our „Mietendeckel“ (Rent Cap), it is clear that we urgently need to expropriate the profit-oriented real estate corporations. Otherwise, we will not find a socially just solution to the housing crisis in this city.

Tenant Tanja: „Akelius has converted my house into condominiums. Now the time is ticking for me until my apartment is sold and I have to expect with being terminated with the help of an action for own needs. But I’ve lived in my apartment for half my life and don’t want to be forced to move. The expropriation of Akelius is the last chance I have to continue to live safely in my apartment. That’s why I’m voting „YES“ on Sunday.“

We are shocked that except for one party, all other top candidates are already speaking out against the expropriation, regardless of whether the referendum will be successful or not. We find this undemocratic and very questionable. The way the parties deal with the outcome of the referendum thus also becomes the touchstone of our democracy.
